Review by Scott Kelly ★★½
This irreverent, occasionally manic and absurdist, farce pitting Franco and Brit gangsters against each other is really gorgeous to look at (Eastmancolor and Techniscope). It’s in the mold of those mid-sixties modish pop-art flicks - this one is like a blend of Philippe De Broca’s Jean-Paul Belmondo films (Up to His Ears and That Man from Rio) with a Richard Lester film (with plenty of youth focused soundtrack elements that suggest the British Invasion meets surf rock). Co-directed by frequent collaborators director Georges Lautner and prolific French cinema screenwriting legend and master at wordplay Michel Audiard. The film is intermittently fun with lots of explosions and assassination attempts for comedic effect, but ultimately it’s all rather inconsequential and a little…

A quirky, stylish 60s crime caper dripping with mod fashion. Lino Ventura plays an ex-gangster trying to live the clean life, who gets asked to track down a grifter for a couple old pals. That drops him right into the middle of a stuffy British crime boss and his gaggle of scooter riding teen thugs.
The plot starts out strong and fun enough, and it really helps that all along the way the movie is gorgeously filmed. But the further the story goes, the more convoluted it becomes, to the point that the actual dramatic arc to the narrative gets lost.
In fact, most of the core conflicts of the story are unconvincingly wrapped by one long montage near the…

Solo para muy fans de Lino Ventura. O sea, yo mismo.

Hard to rate. Starts really promising and Lino Ventura, my french n°3 behind Gabin and Belmondo, is both entertaining and having fun himself. But then it drops off - a bit, not too much, but enough.
It costs the Like-Heart, saves the three stars nevertheless with a lunge.Maybe I should warn you that this flick is a Comedy. For a Comedy it's not funny enough, though, needed more crazy dynamite killings IMHO. For a Crime movie, it lacks of seriousity. There are also some incoherent scenes and repetitive moments.
If you have fun with odd 60's Crime Comedies from France, it may entertain you. And at least I can sign that it's not a bad movie after all - there are worse examples.
