Design destination Silvera first opened its doors in 1990, becoming one the city’s most important purveyors for refined modern design and in its near 30 years of existence has seen the launch of ten showrooms in the French capital. The large furniture store offers a wide selection of contemporary products and design, from sofas to beds and curtains. This design destination is so popular that they have also opened a branch in London.

Le Marais is a hub for art and design and also one of the best places to live in Paris as an expat.And right in the heart of the neighbourhood is Fleux. Since its inception in 2005, Fleux has been a Parisian favourite and has only increased in popularity since the closure of Colette in 2016. Fleux is made up of six different neighbouring boutiques, with each boutique offering a unique and carefully curated selection of pieces. With three stores in central Paris, you’re never far from an AMPM showroom in the city. This is the home decor arm of the famous French catalog, La Redoute and a favourite for style-conscious shoppers on a budget. The showrooms look like something straight out of Pinterest and you’ll want to buy everything. AMPM pays close attention to trends so think velvet sofas, inky blues, millennial pinks and lots and lots of greenery.

Merci is our favourite shop in Paris for unique and quirky gifts, and as well as its fashion and accessories, it sells home furnishings and decor. This concept store is world-famous for its chic edit of brands and pieces and the home section is as stylish as the rest. From iconic Eames chairs to their own vintage selection of reclaimed furniture, Merci is the place to shop if you want your Parisian apartment to look as chic as a locals.

People who love interior design will love this treasure trove of homeware. Designed to replicate an old-school general store, it has a market-like vibe selling objects that are both beautiful and useful. Nestled in the 10th arrondissem*nt which is off the tourist track but a favourite area for trendy locals, this shop is worth seeking out. Ok, so it’s obvious, but if you’re a student moving to the city to study in one of the many universities in Paris,then you might be on a bit of a budget. If that’s the case, IKEA is a good place to pick up the essentials. The Swedish giant has three stores in and around Paris including one relatively near the city centre. From sofas to cushions and cutlery to wall hangings, IKEA sells everything you need to make your place your own for a good price. Just be prepared for everyone else to have the same furniture as you!
