We had a mama heifer abandon her calf over the weekend (calf born Friday) and we didn’t realize until Sunday she wasn’t feeding him. We’ve been bottle feeding him around the clock but got him to the vet too late (he never got mamas colostrum and we realized too late). His little tummy was so small by the time we got him tubed and antibodies he developed calf scour and passed overnight. I even cried last night my husband wouldn’t let me put him in the house on some newspaper and old blankets, he was just a baby all alone! & now I feel terrible poor baby calf passed away all alone during the night I told my husband next time we are unsure if a calf got colostrum we are loading them up and taking them to our vet right away!
I’m so glad my 2 y/o was at a spend the night with his grandma because he’s been helping us feed “baby cow” so he wasn’t here when my husband found him this morning. He was in the barn pin right next to our house and now I feel like we lost a pet.
Nobody tells you the emotional toll of homesteading it has to be these third trimester pregnancy hormones!

these hormones are wild. I cried last night over a mom skunk getting trapped and being away from it's babies. i kept crying saying i need to save all the babies in the world. my husband thought I was seriously losing it.
and we are dealing with rabbits in our garden but I refused to let my husband shoot one even though I know it will just be back to eat my vegetables. and then I'll cry because a rabbit ate my vegetables
I'm so sorry about your calf, that's so hard :((

@Lana-94,
I know it happens but we have been so fortunate, we had never lost a calf before. We had a couple coyote scares in the past but our cows are like our babies we check on them daily! I hate we didn’t catch the mama not nursing her baby sooner
We have yard rabbits I also refuse to let my husband “take care of!” It is definitely these hormones

@Lana-94,
I'm so sorry for your loss and sending love and healing. I can't even imagine how I would handle that being pregnant, but I know that would have torn me apart, even not pregnant. I'm so sorry, truly. Sending love

Cried on my way to work for being in a bad mood this morning with my toddler and she cried when I left. I cried on Sunday thinking about anybody who lost their dads and it was Father’s Day. I just cry daily at this point when anything I see is sad or if I get upset or really any reason

Last night I cried because I accidentally watched 10 seconds of a TikTok video of a tribute to someone’s dog who died. I sobbed and hugged my dogs and kept saying “I just love them so much!”
Yesterday I cried when my husband got home because I didn’t have dinner ready (he did not expect me to have dinner ready, btw)
This morning I cried because my husband asked me to choose a coffee shop to get a treat from after our dr appointment and there were too many options to choose from.
Send. Help.

@amjuber,
I didn’t realize how upset I would be! I just knew this baby calf was gonna pull through and guilt that we didn’t get those antibodies soon enough is consuming me

Ooof I forsure wouldn’t be able to handle that. We put our dog down a few months ago and I’m still crying over it. Thankfully I haven’t been hit too hard with the hormones but that one ripped me apart. I’m sorry that happened to you guys

My husband moved the Swiss ball away from my feet last night, not knowing I had a plan in my head to put my foot on it… I’ve reached crazy town

we homestead as well and one morning I woke up to a dog killing one of my ducks. I was DEVASTATED. I'm such a bird lady so my chickens and ducks are my absolute favorite. I marked my ducks grave and everything and buried him under the tree he was always at.

I cried because my husband said I have nothing to worry about and I’ll be a great mother?! I was like I’m allowed to be scared I also cried because of his work schedule around my due date which in retrospect wasn’t even that bad. Hormones are a b**ch and I take responsibility for my actions lol

@strawberrydonut,
hey this one’s valid lol. My boyfriend is a 27 year old man and still can’t control his emotions watching that movie
He’s also the same big, strong tattooed man who cries watching the office when Michael Scott leaves
